FAQs
If you’ve got a question, we’ve probably got an answer! But don’t be sad if your question isn’t here, we are available to help out or if you just want to write to us and tell us how funny we are.
Koh Lanta is a larger Thai island and can be quite busy in peak seasons if you are staying in the popular sections. The west side of the island is numerous beach towns and if you stay further south, it’s much quieter than say closer to the pier in the north.
Koh Lanta is about 30 km long from top to bottom and only about 7 km’s wide.
The entire island is on road on the west side from top to the bottom, a few roads across and then another road on the east. Driving scooters is the most popular way to get around as most of the roads are fairly new. You can also rent a car or easily get a Tuk-Tuk anywhere with standard pricing available so there aren’t any surprises.
There are many options. Koh Lanta is a very balanced so you can do nothing and chill on the beach all day or you can go a famous beach party until the early hours of the morning.
There is a national park in the south for those who want to see nature.
World class scuba diving is available at spots like Koh Haa, Hin Deang and Hin Muang. You can also do day trips to Koh Phi-Phi as well as the famous 4-island tour to go see the emerald cave and neighbouring islands.
If you are coming from other islands such as Phuket or Koh Phi Phi, there are ferries and speedboats to bring you to the island.
From Ao Nang or Krabi Town you can take a shuttle van or taxi that will bring you straight onto the island. No need for a boat as there is a quick car ferry that can get you across.
From Krabi Airport, you can take a shuttle van or taxi straight to the island and it will cross over using the car ferry.
Fastest way is to fly into Krabi Airport and take a taxi or shuttle van which takes about 2-3 hours.
Krabi International airport is the closest airport and then the taxi or shuttle will take about 2-3 hours to get to the island.
From Phuket Airport, the drive takes about 4 hours.
The dive sites around the Koh Lanta contain so much diversity. You’ll often see cuttlefish, moray eels, clownfish, trumpetfish and much much more. Macro lovers will love exploring in-between the topography to find seahorses, nudi branch’s, anemone crabs, and other small wonders. If you’re lucky, you’ll be able to also see Whale Shark and Manta Rays in the right time of year.
Koh Lanta is a great place to do scuba diving courses because it will train you to become a stronger diver. You will experience wall diving, drift diving, slopping reefs and learning to deal with currents.
Learning to dive in a boring chill spot is all fine and nice until one day you dive with heavy currents and don’t know what to do. Might as well learn how to be strong from day 1.
Koh Haa and Hin Deang, Hin Muang are famous for Whale Sharks and Manta Rays if you’re lucky!
You probably already know the answer: YES. There are programs like the Try Scuba Discover Day for those who just want to try it out and see how it feels or you can do your full Open Water Diver Course and become certified.
Simple answer: they are all the same.
Longer answer: the agencies are just the ones who set the course structure and schedule and limitations but all the agencies have the exact same standards.
So at the end of the day it doesn’t matter which agency the dive center is with because your certificate will work worldwide.
Everyone usually calls it getting your PADI but this really doesn’t mean much and is just because PADI is one of the oldest agencies in the world so they did some really good marketing. Just because it’s older, doesn’t mean it’s better. š
