Similan & Surin Islands Dive Sites

Richelieu Rock is a limestone pinnacle site east of Koh Surin Nua, dropping to 30 metres and surrounded by smaller pinnacles.

Known for vibrant soft corals, macro life like seahorses and ghost pipefish, big schools of pelagics, and occasional whale sharks, it’s an intermediate to advanced dive and one of Thailand’s TOP underwater destinations.

Skill level: Intermediate to advanced

Depth: 0 – 30m

Currents: Weak to strong

Koh Tachai Pinnacle is a granite pinnacle system located 49 km north of the Similan Islands, with depths from 12 to 40 metres and moderate to strong currents.

Known for manta rays, sharks, and large schools of fish around coral-covered boulders, it’s an intermediate to advanced dive and a highlight of Similan liveaboards.

Skill level: Intermediate to advanced

Depth: 12-40m

Currents: Moderate to Strong

West of Eden on Similan Island 7 features granite boulders, channels, and a steep wall with coral gardens, ranging from 5 to 30 metres.

With abundant reef life, turtles in the shallows, and big pelagics in the blue, it’s great for all levels and offers both macro and wide-angle photo opportunities.

Skill level: Beginner to Intermediate

Depth: 5 – 30m

Currents: Weak to strong

Koh Bon West Ridge features a dramatic limestone wall and ridge with coral formations, starting shallow and dropping down to around 40 metres.

Known for manta ray sightings, variable currents, and diverse marine life, this intermediate to advanced site is great for both wide-angle scenery and macro photography.

Skill level: Intermediate to advanced

Depth: 0-30m

Currents: Weak to strong

Located at the northwest tip of Similan Island #9, it’s an intermediate to advanced dive known for its iconic 18 to 20 metre swim-through, strong currents, and big schools of fusiliers and snappers.

Skill level: Intermediate to Advanced

Depth: 2 – 40m

Currents: Moderate to strong

Elephant Head Rock sits 1 km southwest of Similan Island Eight and features huge granite boulders with swim-throughs and drop-offs down to 45 metres.

Strong and changeable currents, lots of fish, and frequent pelagics make this an advanced dive and a favourite for experienced divers and photographers.

Skill level: Advanced

Depth: 0-45m

Currents: Weak to strong

Three Trees on Similan Island 9 features three huge granite boulders at around 22 metres, a sandy slope dropping past 30 metres, and a shallow reef from 7 to 15 metres that’s perfect for drifting.

With variable currents, rich coral growth, big fish like barracuda and turtles, plus great macro life, it’s suitable for all levels and a favourite for photographers.

Skill level: All levels

Depth: 7-30m plus

Currents: Weak to Strong

North Point offers flexible diving for all levels, with granite formations, swim-throughs, and depths ranging from 10 to 40 metres.

Changing currents and varied marine life let guides easily adapt the dive for both training and more advanced profiles.

Skill level: Beginner to Advanced

Depth: 10 – 40m

Currents: Weak to strong

The Tuna Wreck is a steel fishing vessel lying on its side at 28 to 35 metres, surrounded by schools of snapper, trevally, and batfish, with plenty of critters hiding in and around the structure.

Its depth and open sandy location make it a dramatic but advanced dive, suited only for experienced divers with good buoyancy and air management.

Skill level: Intermediate to Advanced

Depth: 28 – 35m

Currents: Mild to moderate

Aow Pakkad at the southern tip of Koh Surin Tai is a gentle sloping reef descending to 20 metres, with calm, sheltered conditions ideal for beginners.

Rich coral gardens host turtles, schools of reef fish, moray eels, and blue-spotted stingrays, making it perfect for both skill development and macro photography.

Skill level: Beginner to Intermediate

Depth: 5 – 25m

Currents: Generally mild
